ABC Adding Freighters

AirBridge Cargo is about to sign deal for 747-8Fs, as the scheduled division of Volga-Dnepr makes big moves to establish itself as a world player.
Speaking to Flight International at the Institute of Economic Affairs' Air Cargo Seminar in London last week, ABC chief executive Stanley Wraight said that the carrier was negotiating a "multiple" aircraft order for 747-8Fs, after an evaluation that included the 777 Freighter.
"We're in final negotiations,” Mr. Wraight said.
Deliveries are due to begin in 2010.
"It will be a multiple aircraft order.”
ABC's 747 fleet will total nine aircraft by end of 2008.

Sometimes Going Bats Works

That November 2006 agreement between Frankfurt-Hahn Airport(FFHG) and the German environmental organization, Bund für Umwelt und Naturschutz Deutschland (BUND) of Rhineland-Palatinate allows putting an already completed runway extension into operation while preserving important wild habitat on part of the busy airport.
Under the agreement, encroachment on nature is minimalized by removing trees of a critical height and thinning the undergrowth, followed by reforestation.
Specifiically trees that are also nurseries for barbastels and Bechstein's bats are being retained.
Working together all around includes supervision of all activities on the project by the BUND, the Forestry Commission, University of Mainz and FFHG.
