Lufthansa Charter Cargo Reigns In Spain

Lufthansa Cargo Charter said that its satellite office in Madrid is the first broker to contract Girjet’s B747-200 freighter for a long haul charter flight from Vitoria to Lima, Peru.
Turns out that due to the complexity of the shipment of machinery and its associated pieces that needed to be transported to Peru urgently, the newly acquired Girjet B747-200F ‘nose loading’ freighter based in Spain was “the perfect match to get the job done right and on time,” according to Braden Brush of Lufthansa Cargo Charter’s Spain office.
“With some of the pieces being as long as 15 meters and numerous pieces over 7 tons in weight, this project required a lot of expertise to plan and finally load for transport,” Braden said.
Lufthansa Cargo Charter supported the operation and their customer’s special need by having two of their own loadmasters involved not only for the loading of the aircraft, but advising the customer before the machinery even left the factory on the most efficient packing options, thus optimizing the cargo to fit on one aircraft.
“Cooperation between Girjet and us was perfect,” Mr. Brush exclaimed.
“Support from Vitoria Integrated Air Services (VIAS) was also excellent.”
For his part the guy with the big airplane was simpatico with the move as well.
“We are looking forward to a lot more operations with Lufthansa Cargo Charter and a long lasting relationship between our two companies,” Toni Cajal of Girjet added.

IATA Air Cargo Best Fall Trade Show Slate

Trade show attendees looking for some bang for the buck cannot do better than the extensive menu of events and industry gatherings put up by The International Air Transport Association and its energetic, inventive Global Head of Cargo, Akeks Popovich.
As 2008 approaches IATA Cargo once again is fresh while everybody else is tired.
In a world of air cargo trade shows that promise sizzle but will deliver the usual suspects discussing a menu of bland sameness, the action of IATA Cargo to seek solutions will be recalled as among the most important initiatives in air cargo history.
Come September 18-19 in Warsaw, Poland IATA Cargo will explore Emerging Markets in Eastern Europe as no other organization big or small has attempted.
The event will be in a hotel with panel meetings and elbow rubbing and maybe you don’t walk away with a bag of orders, but chalk this one up to education and understanding being a big part of the currency of the future.
Maybe the glass half full and the label “research worthwhile” can be applied here.
So take a tip—before you go spending your hard earned money for one of those air cargo shows or other events, all about too much money for everything and spotty delivery of traffic.
FlyingTypers recommends a closer look at the upcoming 2007-08 menu of events put up by IATA Cargo including the kick-off Fall 2007 Emerging Markets this September 18-19 in Warsaw and the IATA Cargo Claims and Loss Prevention Conference September 25-27 in Geneva.
The 3-day Geneva Meet is a must for cargo claims professionals. This conference in its third year will provide a forum for the cargo claims industry to discuss and review current issues while providing the latest information for efficient cargo claims management.
