CEM Warsaw Timely Delivery

Aleks Popovich, IATA head of Cargo is upbeat.
“I'm glad to say that IATA Cargo in Emerging Markets in Eastern Europe held this past Tuesday and Wednesday in Warsaw, Poland was a great success!
Serge Pauporté, (right) IATA Regional Director Cargo Services Europe, Middle-East, Africa added, “We encountered cargo decision makers who showed up and brought content and information exchange that was very rich.
“Interaction during the panels was excellent and we had overall very positive comments."
A similar conclusion was made by all the different presenters, many with converging views that the business of air cargo in Eastern Europe while not of Gold Rush proportion is a promising market for the future.
“Eastern Europe business it is felt will continue with sustainable growth and potential for many profitable businesss, but not without sweat and tears!”
Mr Franz Zoechbauer, (left) Executive VP Cargo Austrian Airlines as example told FlyingTypers:
“Austrian will continue our Go East Stategy.”
Other CEM conclusions include: New EU countries can facilitate growth through improved infrastructure, supported by European Union funding. A clear action plan to be submitted by the country is a funding pre-requisite.
This should help bring better coordination between all the stakeholders: Customs, Regulators, Cargo Players, Politicians
There is also a necessity for better discourse.
Infrastructure development was clearly identified as a major challenge to growth and a well-coordinated plan would be welcome by all parties.
About the Baltics States:
IATA said it will contribute to help speed-up emerging markets to achieve air cargo management development. CASS (Cargo Account Settlement Systems) was identified as one of several high potential tools that the Baltics can utilize to serve the industry.
Elsewhere it was determined that IATA can facilitate standardization & simplification in the air cargo industry in Central EU via some of the solutions and initiatives under way (CASS, Cargo2000, Safety and Security).
IATA Cargo Services proposed to take action in several fields and to further follow up on Harmonization of Security practices, support to sustainable development, deployment of CASS in Central Europe (Cargo Accounts and Settlement System). e-Freight was also perceived as a great opportunity for simplification and optimization.
