Trade Alliance Sees Need For Discussion Now that the American Senate has approved that $3 billion USD border fence between USA and Mexico, some portions of which are being manufactured in China, it’s worth noting that over $760 billion in trade using surface transportation took place between the United States and its North American Free Trade Agreement partners Canada and Mexico in 2006, 8.9 percent higher than in 2005. Cargo Rewriting India ShippingThe growth in the economy has seen an explosion in the cargo sector in the last three years. In fact, air cargo has galloped ahead well past the traditional favorites—railways and ships—to take the biggest bite in freight traffic. According to a study done by the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India, ASSOCHAM Delhi (the country's premier apex chamber with a membership of over 100,000 companies and professionals) if immediate measures are not taken, railways and shipping would be the biggest losers in the long run. The ASSOCHAM Eco Pulse (AEP) study, 'Changing Pattern of Cargo Traffic in India' has analyzed the three major transportation modes -- aviation, railways and shipping – for the 2000-07 period and found that air cargo has grown by around 19 percent as against 10.3 percent and 9.2 percent growth in shipping and railways during the last three years. Star Airlines Growing ChinaEast Star Airlines, one of China's growing private airlines, had just signed a Total Component Support (TCS) deal with Lufthansa Technik AG. The contract will run for five years and is worth over USD10 million. Although East Star commenced flying in May 2006 with three Airbus A319's, the carrier has become the notable “new kid on the block,” by outperforming other older, more entrenched Chinese private airlines. The airline declared a net profit of over USD145 million for its first year operation. More Click Here |

A battle royale between freight forwarders
