Regarding Pete Spaulding

LettersJim LarsenRE: Pete Spaulding

Hi Geoff,

It seems more like a hundred years ago that we said goodbye to Pete Spaulding. I first met Pete when he worked for TMA but got to know him more when he joined Summit. He was always fun to be around and was not afraid to tell you exactly what he was thinking.
I mostly remember the night Pete told everyone he was leaving the Port Authority. We were at a board meeting of the Society of World Air Cargo Professionals and I almost jumped across the table to tell him I wanted the Port Job. Don't know if it was his influence but I ended up replacing him at the Port. I saw a lot of Pete after that and set up a lot of VIP tours to the perishables center. It was a shock when I was told of his passing. It’s at times like these that I really hope there is a hereafter, because I've got a lot to tell Pete when I see him again.

Geoffrey!

I can’t tell you how very awesome it was to wake up to your note this morning! When my big guy Ryan came downstairs, he found me in tears reading your kind words. He read over my shoulder and was a little overtaken, not only by the lasting impression left by his Poppy, but by the kindness shown to his mom by you. I think “class act” were the words he used, and I agree.
Candidly, the family was looking for a way to mark today. Mom wanted a mass. Not really Dad's style. I said dinner and drinks at a steakhouse, but not everyone shares my desire to focus on celebrating life. You, however, nailed it. I take comfort in knowing Dad is in a better place, and if you feel a warm clap on the back today, know it’s Dad saying thanks for keeping his memory alive and making his family proud. Your pen, heart, and sincerity will always be remembered with a smile by my family and me, and I thank you! :)
I missed your note yesterday morning, but wanted to send you along a few pictures of Dad—I’ve attached them here.
Thank you again for making this day one that started with a smile.

Very best regards,
Renne Spaulding Looney
