Watching And Learning IATA Style

So once again the IATA WCS show rolled into a big shipping hub, with Dubai looking to upstage last year’s event in Hong Kong . . .
During the opening press conference Willie Walsh, when asked how he felt about the prospects for air cargo over the coming few months, replied in a very confident tone that the start of the year had gone very well and “this is a very adaptable industry.
Indeed, there was seemingly a complete lack of any doom and gloom amongst both the conference leadership and amongst the 1,800 delegates gathered here, perhaps some of the liberal sprinkling of Dubai "stardust" was having a positive effect!
The headline ambitions from IATA this year, fairly predictably are Safety, Sustainability and Digitalization.
Listening to presentations from the folks at Emirates SkyCargo and dnata, one was left in no doubt as to their ambition in these three areas.
Imagine that it remains to be seen how the rest of the world manages to keep up.
The blue-ribbon panel got things underway at International Air Transport Association (IATA) World Cargo Symposium. Unstudied snapshot includes (from left), Katherine Kaczynska, IATA Corp. Com.; Willie Walsh, IATA Director General, Brendan Sullivan, lATA Head of Cargo, Badr Abbas, Divisional Vice President-Emirates SkyCargo and Clive Sauvé-Hopkins, CEO Airport Operations, dnata.
Takeaway here from Mr. Walsh also includes something he said as an airline guy post 911, worth considering now in the 2025 Year of the Tariff.
“A Lesson In Crises Management”, is a speech Mr. Walsh delivered at Ulster University earlier. Here is a seven-minute, word-up, good for the listening . . .
