Cuban Cargo Havana Good Time

Cuban Cargo Havana Good Time

Cubana Airlines at Jose Marti Airport in Havana, Cuba. The airline is queuing up along with USA flags, as carriers place bids to resume air services between the two countries after a half-century hiatus.

After a half-century blockade some thought would never end, U.S. and Cuban air carriers stand poised to commence what will surely be a growing roster of services between the United States and Cuba.
It’s anybody’s guess where these potential monthly frequencies might leave air cargo, but the circuitous routes airborne consignments have taken during the “no fly” era are a good indication of the impact this will have on the industry.
For example, air cargo between Havana and Europe has been thriving, and while the door was shut between the United States and Cuba, business did not slacken between Toronto, Canada, and the island nation.
Exports have included hotel supplies, high-technology goods, and perishables including foods and pharma.
Imports to Canada have included tropical fruits and vegetables and the ever-popular Cuban cigars, causing one wag to say:
“Trade, like water, will always seek its own path.”
One interesting aspect of Cuba’s future air cargo potential will be in its ability to attract companies that are interested in using the island as a hub for the rest of the Caribbean and Central America.
Right now the title of Aviation Hub of the Americas goes to Miami, Florida, and South Florida certainly has the infrastructure and flights to rule.
But location, workforce costs, and the culture for cargo exists in Havana and for years the location has attracted interest from countries in Europe and elsewhere.
Now that the skies are opening with the USA, and with its aforementioned aerial connections to extensive points, Cuba’s strategic location and inherent brilliance will grow brighter as an air cargo destination in years to come.
