Nordic Cargo Summit Grooves 10th Outing

Nordic Cargo Summit Grooves

Lars-Gunnar Comen     The 10th Nordic Air Cargo Symposium is being held March 29-30, 2017, at Crowne Plaza in Copenhagen, Denmark.
“Actually, the event is not so Nordic as you may imagine,” said Lars-Gunnar Comen, (right) Director of Euroavia International, which puts on the event.
“Normally we have around 180-200 delegates from 20-25 countries, including North America.”

Nice Niche, Wide Range Of Topics

“Our niche in the air cargo conference market is to organize high quality events with no trade show/exhibition attached.
“There are so many of those anyhow.
“At the Nordic Air Cargo Symposium most of our discussion tracks do not have a specific Nordic approach, and that’s why we are able to attract delegates from all over Europe,” Mr. Comen said.

Nordic Trinity

“You might say we have three aims in mind with the Nordic Air Cargo Symposium.
“To invite several shippers since it is so important for the air cargo industry to hear directly from them what they have to say about current issues.
“To make sure that we have all or at least most sectors represented among our speakers.
“It is important to make sure that representatives from the entire supply chain can meet and discuss how to further enhance cooperation.
“Finally, we want to create a great forum for networking for the Scandinavian air cargo community.”

Amazon Drones On

Raimund Paetzmann      “Only a few days ago,” Lars said, “it was confirmed that Mr. Raimund Paetzmann, (left) former Head of EU Operations & Real Estate, Amazon Europe, would be our keynote speaker.
“Mr. Paetzman was in charge of Amazon’s operations and distribution facilities in Europe until a few months ago.
“I hope that a lot of people will find his thoughts on the e-commerce boom highly interesting.”

King Salmon

“The only air freight commodity in Nordics that is growing a lot is Norwegian salmon.
“We have seen an amazing growth in recent years and the numbers will only continue to go up.
“At our event Schenker will review the Norwegian seafood market, current trends, and future outlook etc.
“Several air carriers have entered the Norwegian market with all-cargo capacity in the last two years.”

Focus Scandinavia

“In terms of market report, we note that more and more focus is on Norway recently.
“The Swedish market has always been much more dependent on manufacturing.
“Our largest air freight shippers are Ericsson, Volvo, Astra-Zeneca etc.
“Unfortunately, the Swedish and Danish markets have been pretty stagnant in recent years and there are fears that Ericsson’s decision to move jobs from Sweden to overseas will affect the Swedish air freight volume even more.
“Still, Sweden is a highly interesting market due to our high-tech products and bigger imports.”

The Major Concern

“One issue of concern in Scandinavia is the fact that quite significant volumes originating from these countries are trucked into continental European airports.
“The big forwarders tend to move concentrations of European flows into a few large hubs such as FRA, AMS, and PAR.
“Net result is that trucking impact has made it more difficult to provide direct freighter operations into Scandinavian airports, with the exception of Norway.”

e-Commerce On The Halfshell

“This year,” Lars-Gunnar Comen said, “for the first time, we will have a special focus on e-commerce.
“Nordic Air Cargo Symposium will discuss how the e-commerce boom will affect the traditional air cargo industry.
“Mr. James Roper, Chairman & Founder of IMRG, a specialist e-commerce analyst firm, will join this panel along with a few more interesting names to be confirmed shortly.
“Additionally, a roundtable discussion with the top cargo managers of Finnair and Icelandair and others will discuss how to enhance the quality of the air cargo product.”

Fredrik WildtgrubeFinnair Cargo Steps Up

“Our Conference Chairman is Fredrik Wildtgrube, (left) Head of Sales, Finnair Cargo.
“A truly great guy; everyone will be delighted to meet him,” Lars assures.
