Roos Bakker is 2026-27 Chairman of The International Air Cargo Association TIACA.
But rather than having stepped off a cloud or out of a dream, Roos lands at TIACA having created an enviable track record down on the ground at Schiphol | Cargo Amsterdam serving for 20 years as Director of Business Development for airline routes and networks, the Holland Flower Alliance (together with KLM Cargo), and e-Commerce, Asia, and Africa and undoubtedly more.
TIACA gets a female leader and someone under 40 for the first time ever; and since 1960 when the original IACA was formed and 1990 when TIACA was formed.
Roos rules the roost long-held by men, bringing beauty and brains and focus that from all indication promises to help deliver unity and excellence to this air cargo world organization.
TIACA from its first organized meeting in 1990 at the In and Out Club in London (that we attended) has always held at its core we think, the promise of inclusion and celebration for everyone in air cargo up and down the line.
Roos feels very much at onset like “promises kept” with her proven outlook and drive to lift all aspects of this varied vital global industry up to another level.
As TIACA Executive Summit opens in Hong Kong, Roos shares some thoughts here.
After reading our brief encounter, just like us, you too may be thinking: How lucky can air cargo get?
No surprises within TIACA so far. I already knew the organization well and the team is incredibly committed. I think we are doing the right things and would like to focus more on our strategic priorities in the coming years.
Also think the industry secretly knows a lot about me, but what they should probably never forget is that I love the business and the people.
Although we work hard with the entire community on digitalization etc., it remains a people business in which we have to help each other and guide each other.
You can approach me for anything!
For advice, for help, and for a beer at the bar. Or two!
I am now also back at work in the security field at CTSN Group/ICTS, so in that capacity I also like to have discussions or connect colleagues with each other.
My 20 years at Schiphol Airport were wonderful. Mainly, my great enthusiasm for the industry arose there; Air Cargo and Security, even though my parents were already in the business.
Schiphol gave me great opportunities and allowed me to build with many super cool colleagues.
It was time for something new, and thank God I found something on my card that allowed me to continue doing TIACA.
To strenghten an airport; I would advise airports to ensure that you have a strong community behind you that wants to move forward together, all parties represented. Involve the government and customs in this effort.
Dare to make choices, be clear, and invest in relationships.
And do not endlessly negotiate. |
Break a leg Roos!
Can’t wait for what is next as TIACA looks better every day!
